Chief

Mark Niemeyer

Chief Niemeyer was born in Seattle, Washington and graduated from Bothell High School. He attended Central Washington University where he completed his paramedic program in 1992. While working as a paramedic in Yakima Washington from 1993-1997, Chief Niemeyer was also a volunteer for the Gleed Fire Department. From 1997-2007, Chief Niemeyer worked as a field paramedic in Ada County and in 2007 left as a Field Supervisor after accepting the position of Deputy Chief of EMS for the Meridian Fire Department. In 2010, Chief Niemeyer was named Fire Chief for the Meridian Fire Department. He currently is the acting President of the Idaho Fire Chief's EMS Division, serves on the Technical Committee for NFPA 450, and is involved in local and State issues involving the fire service.


 

 

Deputy Chief of Operations

Chris Amenn

Chris has served as a firefighter since 1987, when he began with a volunteer department in the St. Louis Metro Area. He progressed to become a Paramedic in 1990 and continued to serve with a number of agencies in the area. He served as a training officer and special operations officer and served as a member of the St. Louis Metro Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 3. He has held the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief; which was his position with Webster Groves Fire Department, when he left to join the Meridian Fire Department in January of 2010.  Since joining the Meridian Fire Department Chris has served as our Training Officer, Division Cheif of EMS, and now fills the role of Deputy Chief of Operations. He holds an AAS in Fire Science from Southwestern Illinois College, a B.S. in Fire Service Administration from Lindenwood University, and is currently completing his graduate studies at Webster University. Chris lives in Meridian with his wife, Nicole and daughter, Ainsley; where they have come to feel like a part of the community.

  

  

 

Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention

Perry started his fire service career in 1975 with the Lebanon Fire District in Oregon as a volunteer. He graduated from Chemeketa Community College with an A.S. Degree in Fire Science and Linn Benton Community College as a Paramedic in 1977. Perry was hired full time in Lebanon in 1977 and rose up through the ranks over the years working his final 8 years as Fire Chief, retiring in 2007. Perry joined the ranks of Meridian Fire Department in January 2008 in the Part-Time-On-Call Firefighter group going on to be the Coordinator of that group in July of 2010. He became Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention in June 2011. He lives in Boise with his wife, Lori and sons Jacob and Jesse.

 

 


 

Division Chief of Logistics

Born in 1962 Divison Chief Shaul has lived in this community all of his life.  He attended school here in Meridian and in 1980 graduated from Meridian High School. One year later he graduated from Boise State University Vo. Tec with the honor of being on the Dean's List. He has an extensive background as a mechanic, working in the field for ten years. He worked on a variety of vehicles including boats, snowmobiles, motorcylces and cars. Division Chief Shaul and his wife, Tami have been blessed with three daughters, Megan, Kylie, and Ashton. Over the years he has enjoyed racing motorcycles, cars and snowmobiles along with hunting, fishing and spending time either camping or at the cabin. He cherished the eight years he spent working with his father at his Tire Shop Supply business, during which time he also was a Volunteer for the Meridian Fire Department.  He started as a Volunteer in 1989 and in January of 1994 he joined the Department full-time, there were only two other full-time firefighters at that time. Then in 2000 he was promoted to Captain where he remained until 2011 when he was promoted to Division Chief of Logistics, the first to hold this position for the Meridian Fire Department.

Quality Assurance/GIS/Risk Management

Blake Campbell

Blake Campbell was born in Santa Clara, California in 1969. He moved to Boise in 1974 where he attended local public schools; graduating from Capital High School in 1987. Blake began working at Micron Technology the same year he graduated high school until 1995. During his time at Micron he also worked with Meridian Rescue One, responding only to EMS calls but the rapid growth of the Meridian population caused the EMS and fire divisions to merge. Blake continued his part-time status with Meridian until he was hired as Meridian's 7th full-time firefighter/EMT. Throughout his firefighting career, Blake served Meridian Fire as a Firefighter, Engineer and Captain and was a proud member of Meridian's Firefighter Union 4627, the Professional Firefighters of Idaho and the International Association of Firefighters for over 15 years. After serving 17 years as a front-line responder, Blake was promoted to Division Chief of QA/GIS/Risk Management.

Communications

Tyler Rountree

Tyler Rountree is an Idaho native and has lived in Meridian for the past 38 years.  A graduate of Meridian High, Tyler attended Boise State University and joined the Meridian Fire Department as a volunteer in 1999.  He was hired as a full-time firefighter for Meridian Fire Department in 2002.  Tyler is a past president of Meridian Fire Department’s Local 4627 and is a member of the Professional Firefighters of Idaho.  Tyler is a founding member of Meridian Fire Department’s Pipes and Drum Corps, taking up the bagpipes in 2008.  Prior to becoming the Division Chief of Communications, Tyler served the City of Meridian as a Firefighter, Engineer and Captain.    He is a certified evaluator for the State of Idaho.

 Tyler lives in Meridian with his wife, Beth, and their two children.  He enjoys mountain biking and playing ice hockey on the Boise Fire Hockey team.

Ken Welborn

Ken joined the Meridian Fire Department as a volunteer in 1995. He has proudly served the community holding the ranks of Firefigther, Driver, Captain, and Division Chief. He has also served on the Meridian Fire Department Apparatus Committee. Ken recently earned an A.A.S. in Fire Service Technology from College of Western Idaho, has attended the National Fire Academy, and has plans to further his education. Ken and his family call Meridian home, and enjoy camping and outdoor activities.                                                                           

 

 


 

Division Chief of EMS

David began his fire service career at 16 years old as a volunteer and EMT in rural southwest Virginia. After Graduation from Floyd County High School in 1988 he enlisted in the US Army as a combat medic and served on active duty for three years. During that time he attended the University of Texas in San Antonio and completed his Paramedic Certification. After his enlistment ended he returned to Virginia and worked as a critical care transport medic until 1993 and a Paramedic for Catawba County EMS in Hickory, NC until 1997. In May of 1997, he was hired by Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. He held the positions of Paramedic Firefighter, Lieutenant/EMS Supervisor, and Fire Captain. He was also the coordinator of the department's technical rescue program and a Team Leader for the Virginia Division 6 Regional USAR Task Force. He joined the Meridian Fire Department as the Division Chief of EMS in February of 2012.

 

David lives in Middleton Idaho with his wife Theresa, son Matthew and their Labrador Retriever Rocky. He enjoys hiking and camping with his family, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.

Kevin first became interested in the fire service through a school district occupational program in fire science when he was 16 years old.  This program prepared him to join the Riverside County volunteer fire department in Hemet, California in 1980 where he served at Little Lake Fire Station.  After High School, Kevin went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1983-1987 as a Firefighter completing tours of duty at Upper Heyford AFB, England and Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Kevin continued his career with the Henderson Fire Department, in Henderson Nevada.  Joining HFD in 1987, he served as a Firefighter/EMT on the Fire department rescue/ambulance, Engineer, Captain, and Training Captain.

Some of his accomplishments there included assignments as a Charter member of the Technical Rescue Team, Charter member of the Truck Company, and Charter member of the Water Rescue Team at the Lake Las Vegas station, and completing the Battalion Chief Internship Program.  He also was instrumental in developing the Engineer Candidate Program, Technical Rescue Team program, Water Rescue Team program, and the Henderson Executive Airport training program.

In his spare time enjoys the outdoors including fly-fishing, hunting, golfing, biking and Harley riding.  Kevin is married to his soul mate and best friend Katie, and stays busy with five children, their spouses, and grandkids.                                                                                  

 


 

Fire Inpsector

Kenny Bowers

Chief Bowers joined the Meridian Fire Department in 1972 as a volunteer firefighter. He worked through the ranks and was appointed acting Chief in 1984. He served in this capacity part-time until 1992 when he then moved in the position full time. Under Chief Bowers' direction, Meridian Fire built 3 new fire stations, and equipped them with the necessary apparatus. He was instramental in starting the Thermal Imaging Program, the Defibrillator Program and establishing Meridian Fire Department's Fire Safety Center which opened in 2005. Also, in 2005, Chief Bowers agreed to have Ada County Paramedics move into Fire Station 2 to aid Ada County in their response times to that area of the City. In April of 2005 he became our Assistant Fire Chief and then in 2006 he took on the job of Fire Inspector in our Fire Prevention Division. He is passionate about Life Safety in the Meridian community for all of its citizens. He continues to be the face of the Department as he inspects businesses and serves the community as our Fire Inspector today.

Pam began her career in the fire service as a member of the United States Air Force.  She help many positions from Firefighter to Fire Chief retiring after 20 years of service all over the world.  After retiring from the Air Force she moved to Boise and in 2005 joined the Meridian Fire Department as a Public Educator.  Pam is passionate about families and their safety and absolutely loves teaching children and their families how to be safe.

Judy Gerhart began her career with the Meridian Fire Department in April, 2005. She is an Idaho native who was born and raised in the local area. Following high school she attended and graduated from the Link's School of Business in Boise, Idaho. Prior to settling in Meridian, Judy spent 16 years traveling with her husband to various Air Force assignments stateside and overseas. Before she came to work at Meridian Fire, she worked as a Loan Officer at various Title Companies. She is a proud mom of three boys and one granddaughter. Judy is an avid outdoor enthusiast and spends most of her free time camping, mountain biking, hiking, boating and snow skiing.
