Information Session for Meridian City Council Candidates

Meridian, ID – (August 12, 2009) –  The City of Meridian will hold an informational meeting for anyone who is interested in running for a seat on the Meridian City Council this fall.  The meeting will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009, at 6:00 pm, at Meridian City Hall.

At the meeting candidates can learn more about the roles and responsibilities of a Meridian City Council member, pick up candidacy forms that must be filed, learn about local campaigning regulations, and ask any questions they may have.  Meridian City Clerk Jaycee Holman will facilitate the meeting.

Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd says, “This meeting will be an excellent learning opportunity for anyone interested in running for an elected position within the City government.  We hope to send attendees home with some important information and answer any questions they may have about our local election process.”

In Meridian, two of the four City Council seats will be up for election this November. To be eligible to hold the office of council member, a person must be at a U.S. Citizen least 18 years of age; their primary residence must be within City limits; the address of their voter registration must match the residence address provided on the candidate’s declaration form; and they must have been a resident of the city for at least 30 days prior to submitting their declaration.

The Meridian City Council meets regularly in the evening on the first four Tuesdays of each month in the City Council Chambers at Meridian City Hall.

For additional information about this meeting or about running for a City Council seat, contact City Clerk Jaycee Holman at 888-4433.
