Meridian Residents Encouraged to Pre-Order Trash Carts

Meridian, ID – (May 6, 2010) – Meridian residents have until May 28, 2010, to pre-order the new wheeled trash carts they will be required to use in order to have their waste collected by garbage trucks equipped with new mechanical arm technology beginning July 5, 2010.

Residents can choose 95-gallon service, 65-gallon service, or 35-gallon service for their automated trash collection, depending on how much refuse they estimate their household might generate each week.

Residents can also request a wheeled recycling cart free of charge, upon request.

Residents who want to pre-order their wheeled carts can do so between now and May 28 by calling Sanitary Services Company (SSC), the City of Meridian’s contracted waste collection provider, at 888-3999 or by contacting them via e-mail sent to: supervisor@sscwaste.com.

Residents should be prepared to provide their name, address, phone number, cart size preference, customary trash collection day, and whether or not they wish to have a recycling cart.

Meridian residents who already use wheeled trash or recycling carts issued by SSC should simply continue using them and do not need to contact SSC at this time. 95 gallon carts will automatically be delivered to any household that does not contact SSC to express a specific cart size preference.

Cart delivery is project to take place gradually between now and when full-automated takes effect. Residents can begin using their wheeled carts as soon as they arrive, but the new fee structure will not go into effect until early July.
