2nd Annual Meridian Community Block Party

to Feature Live Music, Free Food, and Games

Meridian, ID – (September 12, 2011) – On Saturday, September 17, 2011, the City of Meridian will host the 2nd Annual Meridian Community Block Party -- a free, family-friendly event, from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m., at Settlers Park, located at 3245 N. Meridian Road. No reservations are necessary to attend this smoke-free and alcohol-free event.

The Meridian Community Block Party will offer fun for the whole family and be a great way to send summer out on a high note. The day kicks off at 9:00 am with the Rock Around the Block Kids Fun Run/Walk hosted by Meridian’s Promise. No pre-registration or fee is required for kids 12 and under to participate in this one-mile run around Settlers Park. Live bands arranged by the Mayor’s Faith Ambassador Council will perform beginning at 10:00 am and play throughout the event. Free food from Cheerleaders Sports Grill and Qdoba will also be available on a first-come first-served basis.

Mayor De Weerd explains, “This ‘block party’ is a great way for members of our community to enjoy many of the elements that make Meridian a great place to live, work and raise a family. The abundance of green space, free activities, and the availability of family-friendly entertainment are all great reasons to come spend a Saturday in the park.”  She adds, “This event could not have been possible without the gracious support of our community volunteers, Faith Ambassadors, and our business community who stepped up as sponsors.”

The event will also feature many of the instructors offering upcoming classes through the Meridian Parks and Recreation Department, offering demonstrations to potential class participants. On-site class registration will be available and participants can receive a 10% discount by pre-registering during the event.

Other community partners in attendance will include the Meridian Police Activities League which will host a variety of football drills and skills competitions. Games2U Entertainment will have games available, including video games and giant hamster balls, and Rocky Mountain Roll will provide jump houses, giant slides, a bungee run, monster boxing, tsunami surf, triple play sports cage, and a climbing wall.  Dart Zone Meridian will have two Nerf game fields set up at the event and will be organizing games for all ages.
