City of Meridian to Conduct Community Development

Block Grant Program Survey

Meridian, ID – (November 14, 2011) - The City of Meridian is inviting its residents to participate in an important survey related to the City’s housing and community development needs.  Citizen input from this survey will help shape how the City sets its priorities for the expenditure of federal Community Development Block Grand funds over the next five years.  The survey begins on November 14, 2011, and will continue through December 16, 2011.

Each year the City receives federal funding to assist many community partners, such as the Meridian Food Bank, the Meridian Senior Center, and the Meridian Boys and Girls Club.  These funds have also been used for park improvements, sewer and water line replacement, and pathway projects in Meridian’s downtown. In addition, funding has been available to increase home ownership in Meridian.

To continue receiving these funds the City must prepare two important reports -- the Consolidated Plan and the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice.  These reports will identify the needs and priorities within our community and how the City should expend these funds.  The City has partnered with BBC research and Consulting in the preparation of these two reports and this survey.  The reports will be released in the summer of 2012.

City residents can take the survey online by following the link provided on the City’s Community Development web page, or by picking up a paper version of the survey at City Hall.  The survey will take between 5-7 minutes to complete. Responses received will be confidential and will only be used with all the other responses.
