Positions with The Meridian Police Department will be posted by human resources when available.  All applicants must pass a background investigation, polygraph, interview with the Chief of Police and psychological examination. Applicants must not be subject to any Internal Affairs Investigations resulting in disciplinary action against them. All applicants will be tested for truthfulness about issues of perjury.

Minimum requirements for all applicants of sworn positions are a basic certificate, 60 college credits or 4 years active duty military with an honorable discharge. Applicants from out of state must be able to become certified in Idaho within one year. Applicants will start at a pay rate commensurate with their years of experience based upon current police pay scale and as determined by the Chief of Police. The department is also implementing mandatory physical fitness requirements for all sworn officers. Benefits include a four day, forty hour work week, dedicated monthly training, ability to advance quickly and numerous special assignments. Benefits also include PERSI retirement, health and dental insurance, sick leave, paid holidays and vacation leave. 

Successful applicants will undergo and complete written testing, oral interview, medical examination, psychological evaluation, polygraph and a thorough background investigation. Applicants must also successfully complete the City of Meridian drug testing prior to employment. Applicants successfully completing one of the Idaho college law enforcement programs may also be considered.
