Overview
General safety rules and procedures=
are
found in the City of
Safety awareness is a high priority= and our goal is to make safety a routine part of the work environment. To accomplish the goal it is necessary for safety procedures to be clearly communicated, understood, and routinely practiced.
Safety training= is routinely conducted with specific safety topics for each month of the year.=
Listed below are summaries of some = of the procedures:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Eye and face protection:
Appropriate eye/face protection is required when an employee is exposed to flying particles, molten metal, liq= uid chemical contact (including acids or caustics), harmful chemical gasses or vapors, bioaerosols or potentially injurious light radiation.
Head Protection
Hardhats are= to be worn while outside on construction sites and whenever overhead hazards a= re present.
Foot Protection
Safety “safety toed” sh= oes or boots or toe protectors, are to be worn in work areas where materials (s= uch as packages, objects, machinery, parts, or heavy tools) could be dropped; w= ork areas where activities may present an impact/crushing hazard to the foot; a= nd work areas around mobile equipment.
Hand Protection
Suitable gloves shall be worn when hazards from chemicals, cuts, lacerations, abrasions, punctures, burns, biological hazards, and/or harmful temperature extremes are present.
Protective Clothing
Impervious protective clothing i= s to be worn during activities where potentially hazardous or corrosive liquids could come in contact with the employee’s skin, i.e. chemical apron, chemical suit, etc. Additional protection such as goggles, face shields, gloves, leather for welding, and chemical resistant boots may also be required.

Hazard Communication Summary
The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that any employee
using, or affected by the use of a chemical, can identify the chemical and
learn any safety precautions and health hazard information in an expedited =
manner.
Lockout Tagout Procedu=
re
Summary
The objective of this procedure is to present methods that ensure=
the
machine or equipment being worked on is isolated from all potential hazardo=
us
energy sources, bled of stored energy, and locked and tagged out before an
employee performs any servicing or maintenance activity. This will prevent
injuries due to the unexpected energization, start-up or release of energy.=
Confined Space Entry Program Summary
A confined Space is any space th= at is large enough that an employee can enter, has limited or restricted means= for entry or exit, and is not designed for continuous human occupancy.
A confined space may also have o= ne or more of the following hazards:
1. Contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere, or
2. Contains material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant, or
3. Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxia= ted by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers= to a smaller cross-section (e.g., hopper), or
4. Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard (Examples might be hea= t, slick surfaces, poor lighting, and electrocution).
Hearing Protection Program Summary
If a nearby process generates hi= gh noise levels, employees should move a short distance away, until normal conversations can be understood.
Whenever sound levels are exceed, ear protection against the affects of noise exposure shall be provided and = must be worn.
