UNPLANNED EXPERIENCE – New Fall Art Exhibit in Meridian City Hall’s Initial Point Gallery Featuring Artwork by Three Treasure Valley Artists

MERIDIAN, ID – On Tuesday, August 6, Meridian City Hall’s Initial Point Gallery will open its latest art exhibit titled Cross Sections, showcasing abstract paintings and ceramics by three artists. Initial Point Gallery will hold an Artist Reception for this exhibition on August 6, from 4:30 – 7:00 pm, with artist talks on September 10 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

The artists include painters Jan Freeman Long and Martha Channer, as well as ceramic artist Stephen Fisher. Their work explores the deep connections between abstraction, emotions, and psychology. Through their unique styles, they reveal how abstract forms can express complex feelings and inner thoughts, inviting viewers to experience and reflect on the emotional layers within each piece. The exhibit will remain on display through Friday, September 30, 2024.

In Jan Freeman Long’s work, she explores the visual and psychological territory of abstract art. She explains, “I seek out visual relationships within each composition that express what I don’t have words for. Visual poetry is what I strive for.” Along a similar line, Martha Channer processes her life through abstractions, making visual and spatial connections to other realities. Channer says in her artist statement that her “…compositions arise from motional and emotional patterns associated with music, dance, and choreography - my gesture from the primal, unshriven, and purely energetic borderline between form and non-form.” On the other hand, ceramic artist Stephen Fisher is inspired by the symmetry, precision, and repetition of geometric shapes. When describing his work, Fisher says, “I want to reimagine historical and traditional ceramic forms through the lens of bold colors and geometric shapes of abstract painting and sculpture. The goal of each of my ceramic pieces is that its presence in one’s space is significant.” Together, these abstract artists encourage you to notice life’s hidden details and enjoy the surprises in their unique and creative works.
