Fire Safety Center

The Meridian Fire Department, through a partnership with the West Ada School District, celebrated their grand opening of the Meridian Fire Safety Center in May 2005. The Fire Safety Center is an educational tool used to teach fire prevention and fire survival in an interactive manner.

The Meridian Fire Safety Center Features:

  • Accessibility to the disabled
  • Classroom to show video clips and teach fire safety
  • Burned out room, which is a recreation of an actual fire that took place in Meridian
  • Fully equipped kitchen used to teach cooking safety and medicine and cleaning supply safekeeping
  • Sprinkler head demonstration room where an article of clothing is ignited and sprinklers are used to extinguish to show the effectiveness of sprinklers
  • A bedroom with a heated door to simulate a fire on the other side
  • A bedroom with fog to allow children to "crawl beneath the smoke"
  • A window to practice exiting a home other than through a door
  • 9-1-1 simulator system

The practical hands-on activities reinforce the lessons taught in the classroom. These fun, make-believe exercises prepare children to react safely and appropriately in case of an actual emergency.

This educational facility allows fire-safety programs to be offered to more residents of Meridian.

This is truly a state-of-the-art, multipurpose facility for public education with the goal of preventing tragedy by reaching out to the community through education.

Classes can be set up for groups of 10 or more by calling the Fire Safety Center at 208-884-0597 or our administration line at 208-888-1234.
