One of the things I love most about Meridian is how generous and giving our community members are to those around them. In fact, the generosity of our citizens is a primary reason Meridian was recently recognized as one of the best places to live in Idaho by Money magazine.
Because we are a community full of caring and giving hearts, I wanted to let you know that Thursday, May 3rd is Idaho Gives. The 24-hour day of online giving was launched in 2013 by the Idaho Nonprofit. In its first year, the one day event raised over $500,000 for 541 causes. Last year more than 10,000 people participated and raised $1,379,406 for 628 nonprofits. To say it has grown is an understatement! That’s why this year their goal is raise $1.5 million for nonprofits statewide.
I’m inviting you to join me on Idaho Gives to support your favorite charities! The best part is that you can join me right from the comfort of home! Simply log on to IdahoGives.org on May 3rd and search for your favorite nonprofit or choose one from the list. You can even search by location and mission.
There are many local nonprofits to consider, who are participating in Idaho Gives such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, the Meridian Arts Foundation, the Meridian Food Bank, Meridian Canine Rescue, the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, the Treasure Valley Children’s Theater, Ride for 22, Neptune Warriors, and so many more!
Idaho has more than 7,000 nonprofit organizations that add more than $2.8 million to Idaho’s economy – employing more than 55,000 people. While these are great numbers, the real value Idaho nonprofits bring to our state can’t be measured. These organizations support our kids, families, seniors, veterans, animals, the arts, education, and so many other important causes. We must work together as a community and as a state to support these organizations and the work they do.
So on Idaho Gives, choose the cause that’s close to your heart. Then share your cause using the hashtag #IdahoGives. I’m a huge fan of movements like this because I believe that while one person can do a lot, with the focus of thousands statewide we can move mountains and really change the future course for those people and issues that need community support the most - including several right here at home.
Visit Idaho Gives.org to participate beginning at midnight MST on Thursday, May 3rd. Learn more about donor incentives/awards offered this year via that site as well. #IdahoGives
