by Mayor Tammy
Most of the area youth are out of school, and June has arrived. That means it’s time for free, family fun in #MyMeridian! Our employees are busy planning a whole host of activities for you to enjoy this month. Here is a list of my #Top5 events to check out in June:
CableONE Movie Night
The 12th year of CableONE Movie Night is underway, happening every Friday! This is an event that continues to gain in popularity! What is more fun than watching family friendly movies under the Meridian sky? Check out the schedule of movies at meridiancity.org/movienight and share your pictures on social media with the hashtag #MeridianMovieNight. (Now – Aug. 31, Fridays at dusk, Settlers Park)
Public Works Week
Our Meridian Public Works team is busy putting the final touch on this year’s 10th annual event! They really enjoy educating our community about Public Works, while making it fun. The ‘Go with the Flow Tour’ is on Wednesday, June 6 and the popular Expo returns to Meridian City Hall on Thursday, June 7 from 4pm-7pm. If you haven’t been to the Expo, I highly recommend it. The event is great for people of all ages, but the kids especially enjoy the interactive stations.
Gene Kleiner Day
This is an annual event that I look forward to each year as we pay tribute to the extraordinary generosity of Gene Kleiner, who donated Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park to the City of Meridian and its residents. The donation was in honor of his late father who once farmed the land. A free concert performed by the Meridian Symphony Orchestra in the Kleiner Park Band Shell will be held on Saturday, June 9. It begins at 7pm and includes several pieces that are sure to delight audience members of all ages. The park’s concession stand will also be open for business to provide snacks and beverages.
Meridian Main Street Market
The Meridian Main Street Market is the new name of our Youth Farmers Market. There’s an updated look to the market and name but it still provides opportunities for area youth. This year’s market also includes local farmers, crafters, artisans, and more! Come experience Downtown Meridian and shop local every Saturday at Meridian City Hall from 9am-2pm, June 23 – Sept. 1.
This is a time honored event in Meridian that dates back to 1949 when the First Dairy Show was held at the Dairy Show Grounds in Meridian. The event is June 20-23 and includes a pancake feed, the popular Dairy Days Parade down Main Street in Meridian on Friday, June 22, a carnival at Storey Park, fireworks and more! If you have yet to check out the Dairy Days’ events, I would encourage you to do so! Find more information at www.dairydays.org.
On top of these events we have other exciting things to look forward to! I’m hosting Coffee with the Mayor on Tuesday, June 12 at 8am at ProService and would love to see you! The Meridian Arts Commission, Meridian Development Corporation and the Zamzows family will celebrate the completion of the mural on the south-facing side of the Meridian Mill. And next month we’re once again hosting the annual Meridian Independence Day Celebration at Storey Park on July 4.
I invite you to check out an event here in Meridian that you’ve never been to in the past - you won’t be disappointed! You can always find more events online on our website – www.meridiancity.org. We look forward to seeing your pictures and videos on social media from your summer fun in our community with the hashtags #MeridianSummer and #MyMeridian.
