While creating our annual Unplug and Be Outside event, we discovered these free/low-cost year-round activities. Some were new to us. We wanted to share them so you can continue to explore and enjoy being active long after the event concludes.

Refurbished bicycles, repair stations sliding scale for kids.

Idaho Bird Observatory

We have three banding stations that are open to the public on select dates. Visit us to meet our scientists and watch research in action!

Meridian Youth Scholorships

Financial assistance is available for children up to 18 years old, who are interested in participating in Meridian Parks and Recreation activities.

Our goal is to help your children discover more about the outdoors while learning about our parks and making connections to the natural world.

Idaho Bird Observatory

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge provides refuge for both wildlife and people. The refuge protects the Lake Lowell Unit and the Snake River Islands Unit to provide oases for resident and migrating wildlife. Admission is free.

Eagle Island State Park

Bordered on the north and south by the Boise River, Eagle Island boasts more than 540 acers and features a swimming beach, grassy picnic area, more than five miles of walking trails, a disc golf course, and non-motorized watercraft rentals.

Meridian Park's Free Outdoor Amenities

Disc Golf Courses

Kleiner Park's 18-hole disc golf course is open year-round. Additionally, Bear Creek and Settlers Park have 9-hole seasonal courses.

Outdoor Gyms

Free outdoor gyms can be found in Kleiner and Tully park.

Tip: Kleiner Park's outdoor gym is especially designed for low impact and a gentle workout.

Water Play

Meridian Park's Splash Pads and water play areas will help cool you off on hot summer days. You can find those in Kleiner, Setters, Discovery, and Hilldale parks. Additionally, Generations Plaza in downtown Meridian has fountain!

Cool Tip: Discovery Park has a water play area that replicates local dams and rivers!

Fishing

Idaho Fish and Game stock Kleiner and Settlers park ponds. Fishing is free, but does require a fishing license.

Tip: Watch for free fishing days that include loaner fishing equipment and lessons at part of the Unplug and Be Outside event schedule in May.
