Grievance Procedure

The City of Meridian's grievance procedure was established to meet the requirements of the Title II Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, activities, programs or benefits by the City of Meridian, including federally assisted services, programs, activities and benefits. The City of Meridian's Employee Policy Handbook includes grievance procedures to meet the employment related requirements of Title I of the ADA.

Submitting a Complaint

Use the General Grievance Form to submit a complaint to the ADA/504 Coordinator as soon as possible, but no later than 60 calendar days after the alleged violation. Alternative means of filing complaints, such as personal interviews or an audio recording of the complaint will be made available for persons with disabilities upon request.

What to Expect

Within 15 calendar days after receipt of the complaint, the ADA/504 Coordinator or designee will meet with the grievant to discuss the complaint and possible resolutions. Within 15 calendar days of the meeting, the ADA/504 Coordinator or designee will issue a written response. The response will include the ADA/504 Coordinator/designee’s decision on the complaint and the resolution to be implemented, if any. The ADA/504 Coordinator’s decision shall be the City’s final decision.

All written complaints received by the ADA/ 504 Coordinator or designee and responses will be retained by the City of Meridian for at least three years.

The procedures described above do not preempt or supersede any legal procedures or remedies otherwise available to a victim of discrimination or harassment under state or federal law.
