Be a Part of Team Meridian

Being a premier community to live, work and raise a family, is more than just a simple statement. It’s the vision we have for Meridian. Like any vision, it takes planning and execution to make it a reality. In our case, it takes dedicated employees who strive to be committed leaders and public servants for all residents. You may ask, why do people choose the City of Meridian for their career? People choose to work for the City of Meridian for a variety of reasons. Some want to serve the community, while others are drawn to the specific type of work we do here that isn’t an option outside of government. Some look for the opportunity to try different positions and jobs throughout the many departments we have as they try to identify their career. Some want opportunities to grow within an organization with training and succession planning as part of their future. Whatever reason it may be, ultimately, we have highly dedicated people here at the City of Meridian, providing premiere services to our residents.

As a local government we offer employment in 9 different departments, each with their own unique purpose. Some of the positions we have are found in the private sector such as lawyers, engineers, accountants, human resource professionals, information technology specialists, and many others. But we also have police officers, firefighters, planners, water and wastewater operators, pathway specialists and so many other positions that are unique. Ultimately, what makes all of these positions unique from the private sector is the people doing the work and serving this great community. The interaction which is occurring every day with the public makes no two days the same.

So, what is it like to be a public servant for the city? First and foremost, is an understanding that we serve and interact with the public daily – be it a groundskeeper, a project manager, or a data clerk – people are our business. It is important that when we hire in every department, we are able to find people who can commit to serving the community.  We do this the Meridian Way which is through our CARE (Customer Service, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) values. This is achieved by, cultivating an incredible culture in the city that promotes treating every person with whom we come into contact, with dignity and respect at all levels within the organization.

In today’s economy, especially here in the Treasure Valley, people have many choices of where they can work. As a city, we are part of that competitive job market. With nearly 600 full time positions, over 100 seasonal employees, and many independent contractors who make our city function. This keeps your public safety services coming when you call, your water flowing when you turn on the faucet, and your parks mowed when you want to have a picnic. We are looking for the right people to join our team as we work to be a premier community to live, work and raise a family.
