Last week, the Meridian City Council voted unanimously to put the public safety levy on the November ballot. I appreciate their thoughtful consideration in getting this item to our residents for the November 4, 2025, election.
With all the talk about this topic over the last several months as well as the tragic incident in Northern Idaho last month, it is easy to say that public safety has been at the forefront of everyone’s mind. But this week, we get to take a break and celebrate our community with those very first responders as we once again participate in National Night Out.
This year’s National Night Out is Tuesday, August 5, 2025, and more than two dozen neighborhoods are hosting events across the city. Each one is uniquely planned by residents to reflect the spirit and character of their neighborhood with visits from our police officers, firefighters, and city leaders joining these events as we build community one contact at a time. From playing games, enjoying BBQ’s, and answering residents’ questions, these face-to-face interactions create relationships with our public safety providers and make lasting memories for our youngest residents.
If your neighborhood didn’t host an event or you weren’t able to make it, this year we will also be inviting you to your local fire stations in October. As part of our efforts to give you an opportunity to be informed about the public safety levy, the City of Meridian will be hosting public open houses at various fire stations across the city from October 2nd through the 13th. These will be great opportunities for residents to come by to learn about the levy and ask any questions to department and City leaders, and an opportunity for our youngest residents to make memories visiting a fire station.
Once the schedule is finalized, you’ll be able to find the dates and times for these events in a future newsletter, on our community calendar, and with the information about the levy.
In closing, thank you to all the volunteers and employees who are making National Night Out a reality. It takes people stepping up to make a difference and I want you to know how much we all appreciate your efforts. Together we are all making Meridian a premier place to live, work and raise a family.
