Swim Lessons

Registration for ALL 2024 Group Swimming Lessons, will open at 9:00am on Friday, April 5th.

How to Register?

ONLINE: By either clicking the REC1 catalog link below or go to the City of Meridian website (Government tab, Departments tab, Parks and Recreation button, Classes and Camps button, Register for Activities button.

REC1 Notes:

- You must make an account with REC1, before registering for any swim lessons.

- When you are creating your account, be sure to input YOUR information first, as it will then designate you as the Account Holder. By not doing so, you will not have "clearance" to register them. 

- When you are in the process of selecting specific levels/ dates and times, please ensure that your CHILD is the one being registered for the class before you add items to your cart - failure to do so, will result in your name being under participants, which will affect class rosters, refunds, possible transfers, and we will be unable to track level progression on our end. 

2024 Swim Lesson Session Dates

Session 1: June 3rd - June 13th, registration closes on May 27th. 
Session 2: June 17th - June 27th, registration closes on June 10th. 
Session 3: July 1st - July 11th, registration closes on June 24th.

**Both Morning, and Afternoon Swim Lessons will be held at their normally scheduled times on Thursday, July 4th. NO makeups will be offered for those who choose not to attend their scheduled classes on this date. 


Session 4: July 15th - July 25th, registration closes on July 8th. 
Session 5: July 29th - August 9th, registration closes on July 22nd. 

 Each Session (group of dates) runs Monday - Thursday, for the duration of two weeks, totaling eight class days.

 IMPORTANT: Before registering for lessons, please see below for any pre-scheduled closures, during our 2024 Season. Please note that these closures will ONLY affect PM Swim Lessons, AM Lesson schedule will operate normally, unless otherwise posted. Makeups will be offered for those affected, two days after the scheduled date of closure, which is the second Friday of these sessions. While attendance for makeup dates is optional, we kindly ask that those who plan on attending, do so during their regularly scheduled time, with their assigned instructor.  

Pre-scheduled Closures for 2024 Season (NO PM LESSONS ON THESE DATES):

- Wednesday, June 26th. Makeups for PM Lessons ONLY, will be offered on Friday, June 28th. 

- Wednesday, July 10th. Makeups for PM Lessons ONLY, will be offered on Friday, July 12th. 

 Swim Lesson makeups will only be offered in the event of lightning/unsafe air quality conditions, during lessons - prior to the last day of lessons (second Thursday of each Session). Makeups for lightning/smoke related closures, would then take place on the second Friday of that particular Session. NO makeups will be offered if lightning, or smoky conditions are to occur on the LAST day of lessons. 

 **We do not offer makeups for reasons other than weather related closures, so please double check your personal calendar PRIOR to signing up for lessons. 

Instructor request? Email wspurlock@meridiancity.org with the following: child's name, instructors name, session, time, level, and we will try our best to coordinate schedules! 

No refunds, or pro-rated fees for any pre-scheduled closures.

Level 1: Guppies

Comfort in Water

Children must be 3 years old by 1st day of class

Class Objectives:

  • Work on blowing bubbles
  • Submerging face in water
  • Work on front and back floats
  • Learn general water safety

Level 2: Starfish

Supported Swimming

Children must be 3 years old by 1st day of class

Class Objectives:

  • Swim underwater
  • Work on front and back glides
  • Swim front crawl with assistance
  • Swim elementary backstroke with assistance

Level 3: Sea Turtles

Independent Swimming

Class Objectives:

  • Introduction to rotary (side) breathing, used during freestyle
  •  Retrieve objects from at least 4 ft. depth
  • 25-yard freestyle and backstroke
  • Introduction to breaststroke (arm and leg movement, breathing, depth, timing, etc.)

 

Level 4: Sea Lions

Independent Progression

Class Objectives:

  • Introduction to breaststroke continued, master timing
  • Continue building endurance in all strokes
  • Work on treading water
  • 25-yard freestyle and backstroke 

Level 5: Sting Rays

Advanced Swimming

Class Objectives:

  • Swim 50-yard breaststroke,
  • freestyle and backstroke
  • Intro to butterfly stroke
  • Tread water with scissor kick/ whip kick for 45 seconds
  • Learn open turns and starts 
  • Introduction to diving

Advanced: Sharks

Pre-Team Skills

Class Objectives:

  • Continue dives and starts 
  • Flip turns/open turns
  • Swim 50-yard freestyle and backstroke
  • Swim 25-50 yard breaststroke and butterfly
  • Any additional Pre-Team skills that instructors see fit / have time for.
