When? Registration will open on Friday, April 7th at 9:00am
Where?
Register online, by either clicking the Register for lessons button below, or go to the City of Meridian website (Government tab, Departments tab, Parks and Recreation button, Classes and Camps button, Register for Activities button.
REC 1 note: You must create an Account Holder account, before adding your kid/s onto the account. Please do not make multiple accounts, as it will affect class rosters, refunds, possible transfers, etc.
OR
Register in person at the Meridian Pool - this will ONLY be offered on Friday, April 7th, from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Registration will then resume online ONLY, until we open for regular summer business hours.
Please direct all calls and emails to the Meridian Pool front desk, BEFORE contacting Parks and Recreation front desk located at City Hall - as they are already VERY busy with registrations for all other classes and programs, thank you!
2023 Swim Lesson Session Dates
Session 1: June 5th - June 15th
Session 2: June 19th - June 29th
Session 3: July 3rd - July 13th (lessons WILL be held on 7/4)
Session 4: July 17th - July 27th
Session 5: July 31st - August 10th
No refunds, or pro-rated fees for any pre-scheduled closures.
Classes run for 30 minutes every day, Monday- Thursday.
NO LESSONS ON FRIDAYS!
Beginning this Summer, we will be offering makeups on Fridays, during your child's regularly scheduled time, level, and within the session they are enrolled in.
Private, and Semi - Private Lessons: Offered during all of the same session dates, and times as Group Lessons . But there are only 3-4 spots per half hour, so please plan accordingly when registering your other children.
Instructor request? Email wspurlock@meridiancity.org with the following: child's name, instructors name, session, time, level, and we will try our best to coordinate schedules!
Group, Private, and Semi -Private Lesson Times
Each sessions registration will close the Monday prior to the starting date of each session. Example: Session 1 begins on Monday, June 5th, registration for Session 1 closes on Monday, May 29th.
Level 1: Guppies
Comfort in Water
Children must be 3 years old by 1st day of class
Class Objectives:
- Work on blowing bubbles
- Submerging face in water
- Work on front and back floats
- Learn general water safety
Level 2: Starfish
Supported Swimming
Children must be 3 years old by 1st day of class
Class Objectives:
- Swim underwater
- Work on front and back glides
- Swim front crawl with assistance
- Swim elementary backstroke with assistance
Level 3: Sea Turtles
Independent Swimming
Class Objectives:
- Introduction to rotary (side) breathing, used during freestyle
- Retrieve objects from at least 4 ft. depth
- 25-yard freestyle and backstroke
- Introduction to breaststroke (arm and leg movement, breathing, depth, timing, etc.)
Level 4: Sea Lions
Independent Progression
Class Objectives:
- Introduction to breaststroke continued, master timing
- Continue building endurance in all strokes
- Work on treading water
- 25-yard freestyle and backstroke
Level 5: Sting Rays
Advanced Swimming
Class Objectives:
- Swim 50-yard breaststroke,
- freestyle and backstroke
- Intro to butterfly stroke
- Tread water with scissor kick/ whip kick for 45 seconds
- Learn open turns and starts
- Introduction to diving
Advanced: Sharks
Pre-Team Skills
Class Objectives:
- Continue dives and starts
- Flip turns/open turns
- Swim 50-yard freestyle and backstroke
- Swim 25-50 yard breaststroke and butterfly
- Any additional Pre-Team skills that instructors see fit / have time for.
